Palestinian factions warn of critical humanitarian condition in Gaza

Palestinian prominent factions warned of the seriousness of the humanitarian conditions in Gaza Strip due to the continuation of the Israeli siege which has been in force for the past ten years.

AhlulBayt News Agency - Palestinian prominent factions warned of the seriousness of the humanitarian conditions in Gaza Strip due to the continuation of the Israeli siege which has been in force for the past ten years.

In a statement on Monday, the factions said that the economic and humanitarian conditions in the besieged enclave have reached an unprecedented serious level.

The statement pointed out that the deterioration of conditions in the Strip led to the increase in levels of poverty and unemployment as well as to the increase in cases of sudden death among Gazans.

A statistical report issued last October by the Euro-Mediterranean Observatory for Human Rights (based in Geneva in Switzerland) showed that 40% of Gazan people, estimated at 1.95 million, were living under poverty line, while 80% were receiving relief aid.

According to the Euro-Mediterranean Observatory, 6 out of 10 families in Gaza Strip suffers from the lack of food security.  27% of those families suffer acute lack of food security, 16% suffer moderate lack of food needs and 14% complain about shortage of food security.
